A strategy innovation process tip: Ask team members to devote 20% of their time to a critical initiative.
An excerpt from The Power of Strategy Innovation, by Robert E. Johnston, Jr. and J. Douglas Bate, consultants at Insigniam:
“It’s better to have 20 percent of someone’s mind thinking about this initiative all the time than it is to have 100 percent of someone’s mind for a meeting once every few weeks.”
In the interim, the authors say these teams will individually scan data, look for insights, and make connections that could affect the initiative’s success, turning downtime into incubation time.
