Insigniam consultant, Charles E. Bayless, appointed to the board of directors to address revitalization of Puerto Rico’s power grid

PHILADELPHIA (PRWEB) February 19, 2019 — Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Roselló Nevares has announced the addition of Insigniam consultant Charles E. Bayless, as a new independent member to the Puerto Rico Board of the Electric Power Authority (PREPA).

“[N]ew appointments are made under an independent selection process of new candidates to continue the ESA transition and allow agility in the process of transformation and restructuring,” adds PREPA chief executive José Ortiz.

Mr. Bayless is a former utility executive and a lecturer on energy policy, climate change, and ocean acidification. Until 2008, Mr. Bayless was president and provost of the West Virginia University Institute of Technology. Prior to that, Mr. Bayless had been chairman, president, and CEO of both Tucson Electric Power (now Fortis) and Illinois Power (now Ameren) and, earlier, SVP and CFO of Public Service Company of New Hampshire (now Eversource).

Mr. Bayless will continue to advise PREPA on its recovery from Hurricane Maria that ravaged the island’s power grid in 2017 from his board seat.

“The opportunity to serve Puerto Rico during this troublesome time is immense,” said Mr. Bayless. “The island of Puerto Rico has had all sorts of difficulty coming back from this superstorm, and my role with the organization is to help them wade through their difficulties, both financially and on the practical implementation side, to restore their power grid in an efficient, resilient and sustainable way.”

Mr. Bayless brings his vast experience of navigating public utilities through bankruptcies, dealing with budgetary situations, and his abilities to work hand-in-hand with established policies to find sustainable solutions.

“We want our consultants catalyzing extraordinary value with and for our clients, and we also want them making a difference in the world,” said Nathan Owen Rosenberg, Insigniam’s co-founding partner. “Charles’ dedication to the revitalization of Puerto Rico’s power grid is inspiring to all of us at Insigniam.”

Mr. Bayless received his BSEE from West Virginia Institute of Technology, his MSEE in power engineering and his law degree from West Virginia University and his MBA from the University of Michigan.
