Founding partners at Insigniam, Shideh Sedgh Bina and Nathan O. Rosenberg, along with fellow trustees are signatories to a series of nonpartisan solutions released today by the Committee for Economic Development of the Conference Board (CED) to the challenges we face in achieving full participation in our nation’s democracy through voting.

The proposal offers four actions that business leaders can take to lead our nation through this election season including “1. Communicat[ing] new voting rules, options for voting, and voting procedures to employees and customers, including providing reminders to help employees vote early; 2. Support[ing] other election needs, including through the donation of needed infrastructure, technology assistance, supplies, and services; 3. Offer[ing] employees time off to serve as election volunteers; and 4. Offer[ing] paid time off to help employees vote safely, including for early voting or to drop off absentee ballots.”

At Insigniam, employees receive a paid day off on days for a national election and are encouraged to use paid time off to volunteer in support of non-profit organizations that promote voter registration and education.

The Committee for Economic Development of The Conference Board (CED) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, business-led public policy organization that delivers well-researched analysis and reasoned solutions to our nation’s most critical issues.

Since its inception in 1942, CED has addressed national priorities to promote sustained economic growth and development to benefit all Americans. CED’s work in these early years led to great policy accomplishments including the Marshall Plan, the economic development program that helped rebuild Europe and maintain peace following World War II, the Bretton Woods Agreement that established the new global financial system, and both the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

The CED recommendations are part of a report to “protect voters and poll workers and maintain trust in the conduct and outcome of elections.” The Committee urges business executives to take a lead role in protecting their employees, customers, and communities while preserving the integrity of our democratic processes.
