The engineering department of an aircraft manufacturer had been blamed for repeated production delays. The drawings in the transitions needed to be identical to the plans and 70% of the drawings in the 60,000 transitions were rejected.

During the three-day breakthrough thinking and project formulation sessions, the team took on a breakthrough goal to have 75% of the drawings pass the first time they were reviewed. This goal was to be achieved by year-end, which was six months away.
